Emergency flood and water damage service for Palm Bay, West Melbourne Eau Gallie and Melbourne Fl
In August 2008 tropical storm Fay hit the state of Florida particularly Brevard County where the town of Palm Bay is located. It caused severe flooding in many areas and many homes have experienced a great deal of water damage. The water subsided after a few days and residents were faced with the problem of the cleanup of their damaged properties.
This was made worse by the drainage and sewage problem of the town whose residents rely on septic tanks for their sewage disposal. Although several residents have already availed of the town’s sanitary sewage disposal system, its climate makes the homes located in the area prone to water damage and the problems that come with it.
Sewage is spent water from homes, classified as sanitary sewage; from stores and business establishments, classified as commercial wastes; and from goods manufacturers and producers, classified as industrial wastes. Sewage is usually collected for treatment or disposal, but when there is flooding like in the case of Palm Bay, FL, sewage pipes can become broken and waste water can mix with floodwater and contaminate everything that comes in contact with them.
After severe flooding, sewage cleanup is necessary to prevent the spread of disease. Floodwater and sewage carry harmful bacteria that can contaminate the water supply of homes and cause serious health problems. Here are some tips on sewage cleanup after flooding or sewage spill in your home.
You should always wear protective clothing, rubber gloves and boots when cleaning or handling contaminated items. Everything that has been touched by sewage is contaminated and all clothes and linen must be dry cleaned or washed in hot water. For items that cannot be washed or dry cleaned, it is best to just throw them away. This could include upholstered furniture, carpeting, and mattresses.
All surfaces must be washed with soap and water and disinfected with a solution of bleach and water. After washing, be sure to dry out everything to prevent mold from growing, which is one thing that comes as a result of water damage and which can cause a lot of health problems. It can cause allergic reactions and respiratory problems especially if concentrated in large quantities.
